TB Buster helping farmers go TB Free and stay that way!

Alan Hughes, Director of Farming Solutions, is a 4th-generation farmer, NFU member, Engineer, and award-winning inventor of agri products.
Alan successfully achieved TB-free status on his family herd within 6 months of a TB Breakout using homemade biosecurity in 2010; most breakouts take years to achieve a TB-free status.
Alan has passed all of the BCVA Training to be qualified to advise on the BVD FREE Scheme, Action Johne’s and a BCVA Accredited TB Veterinary Adviser (BATVA).
The TB Buster is designed not only to protect feed from wildlife contamination but also to support a more controlled, hygienic feeding routine across your farm. By raising feed off the ground and enclosing it within a secure, badger‑proof structure, the TB Buster helps maintain cleaner feeding conditions throughout the year, even in high‑pressure TB areas. This makes it an ideal solution for farms looking to strengthen their biosecurity without disrupting existing routines or investing in complex infrastructure.
Because the TB Buster is built from heavy‑duty galvanised steel, it is engineered to withstand the demands of daily use, harsh weather and the pressures of busy livestock environments. Its robust construction ensures long‑term reliability, making it a cost‑effective investment for farms seeking practical, durable TB prevention measures.
The design also encourages calm, natural feeding behaviour in cattle, reducing competition and minimising stress around feeding points. This contributes to better herd health and improved performance, particularly during winter housing or periods of restricted grazing.
Whether used in yards, paddocks or out‑wintering areas, the TB Buster provides a simple, effective and welfare‑friendly way to reduce TB exposure risks and protect your herd all year round.
TB Buster – TB Prevention – Badger Proofing
The most common way TB is spread between badgers and cattle is through mineral buckets and creep feeders, so can you afford to leave your minerals on the ground?
TB Buster Scientifically Tested
By The Royal Agricultural University of Cirencester.
Throughout the duration of the three-month trial, badgers were found to be unable to access the mineral lick holder held by the TB Buster, whereas the badgers regularly accessed a conventional mineral lick bucket nearby nightly.
Additionally, the scientific trial established that once secured, the TB Buster can withhold substantial interaction from cattle, including cattle leaning against the stand and using it as a scratching post.
Dr Rhiannon Fisher, project leader and lecturer in Rural Land Use and Management at the RAU, said
“This was a very interesting study and provides evidence of an effective measure that can be used by farmers to reduce contact between badgers and cattle on grazing land.”
